Locals unite for a good cause

They met to highlight world prematurity month.

Local residents gathered at the Old Benonians Sports club on October 23 to prepare 200 gift parcels for mothers and babies.

According to Tracy Hanna, this initiative was started to create awareness of prematurity.

“The reason for this drive is to highlight World Prematurity Month in November and specifically on November 17 as it is World Prematurity Awareness day.

World Prematurity Month takes place in November.

“The contents of these gift bags have been donated by several different charities and companies, some as far afield as Ireland,” she said.

Hanna said these gifts will be donated to the Far East Rand Hospital, Tambo Memorial and the Midwife Obstetrics Unit in Hillbrow.

She added that the charities that made the donations have committed to donating a further 400 gifts to other hospitals.
