#HeritageMonth2022: Displaying unity in cultural diversity

Today is Heritage Day (September 24)!

To observe the day and marvel at the great richness of our cultures, staff at Caxton Local Media offices, in Ravenswood, dressed in traditional attire symbolic of the diverse South Africans who work here.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will today be at the Union Buildings, leading the nation in celebrating South Africa’s indigenous music and its immense contribution to sport, arts, culture and heritage.
Heritage Month (September) is celebrated annually to mark our nation’s diverse culture and heritage.

Government has called on all South Africans to use Heritage Month to foster greater social cohesion, nation building and a shared national identity.

According to the South African Government (www.gov.za), the celebration of Heritage Month has created a conducive environment for all people to embrace and celebrate what was inherited from preceding generations.

We call on all South Africans to support the culture of reading and incorporate it into their daily lifestyles.

Government pointed out that it is important to encourage youngsters to visit a library and start reading at an early age so that they grow up with the passion for reading as this develop a broader vocabulary and increased general knowledge.
