Put your bins out for collection this weekend

Skips at the Northmead dumping site in Hospital Street are overflowing with residential refuse which has not been collected for the past five weeks.

In an attempt to urgently address the five-week refuse removal backlog, additional trucks will be servicing Benoni this weekend (August 13 and 14).

During a Ward 23 public meeting on August 11, MMC for Environmental Resources and Waste Management André du Plessis stated that the divisional head of the waste department and the Benoni depot manager committed to sourcing additional trucks from other depots to service the entire Benoni area.

“Teams will be working on Saturday and Sunday to do collections and the landfills will extend their operating times to ensure that the trucks are able to be emptied,” he said.

“More information will be made available on the various service delivery WhatsApp groups.”
