Litter Bugs dedicate 67 minutes at Homestead

Following two days of hard work, the bugs are proud that the dam looks cleaner and greener.

In honour of Mandela Day, the Litter Bugs Club dedicated two days to cleaning up Homestead Dam, on July 22 and 23.

Led by Farrarmere resident Samantha Choles, the group opted to host a double clean-up, offering residents and volunteers more opportunities to become part of the initiative.

The initiative was enthusiastically supported by Litter Bug members, Benoni Cub and Scout troops, Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora, Farrarmere Primary School, Ashton International College, St Dunstan’s College, Benoni Lakes Lions Club as well as local businesses Tau Energy and Union Swiss.

“Adults and children happily got stuck into clearing litter from the banks and gullies, as well as parking area and pathways,” said Choles.

“Participants were encouraged to further bring along bottle tops and bread tags to support Tops and Tags for Wheelchairs, as well as clean polystyrene which is used by a brickmaking company in Edenvale.”
