Rotary Anns collect close to 6 700 cans

We are grateful for every donation

The Benoni Aurora Rotary Anns collected nearly 6 700 cans of non-perishable food during its first Mandela Day can collection on July 16.

Seen here are Daniël Lambie (Round Table Golden East 181), Johnathan Tanner (Round Table Golden East 181 chairperson) and Rachél Ulyate (Benoni Aurora Rotary Anns president).

Working in conjunction with the Round Table Golden East 181, the club hosted a family fun day at the Klein Street clubhouse where collections were received and allocated to the 13 identified charity organisations, including Benoni Child Welfare, SPCA and The Animal Guardians (TAG).

“We initially hoped to have our drive adjudicated by the Guinness World Book of Records, but due to time constraints we opted to rather set a goal of collecting 6 700 cans,” said Rachél Ulyate, club president.

Every can needs to be counted and making sure every load gets to its destination is Anthony Lynes (3).

“We hope to grow this event annually to help as many local charity organisations as possible and are grateful for the amount of support it garnered.

“It has been a great deal of fun preparing for the day and heart-warming to see how many people not only got involved with the initiative but joined us on the day to celebrate the drive.”
