Benoni SPCA receives a much-needed donation
The animal society was nominated for the Dischem Blanket Drive
Dis-Chem Foundation recently donated 200 blankets to the Benoni SPCA.
Since 2017, the foundation has donated blankets to various charities and non-profit organisations across the country.
Jacqueline Kahlberg, Dis-Chem Foundation spokesperson, said: “Every year around this time, we donate to charities around South Africa. We play an active role in underprivileged communities nationally through the foundation and it warms our hearts that more people will be warm during the freezing winter nights.
“We encourage members of the community to actively take part in giving back to those living in difficult conditions,” said Kahlberg.
She said the charities are nominated by individuals on Dis-Chem’s Facebook page.
The foundation team selects the number of organisations that will benefit, and the handover takes place at Dis-Chem stores closest to each organisation.
“Dis-Chem shoppers are reminded that when they swipe their loyalty benefit card when making a purchase, points are automatically allocated to the Dis-Chem Foundation.
“Additionally, benefit card holders earn back in benefit rewards on qualifying purchases every time they swipe their card in-store or online. We thank our loyal customers for using their benefit cards as this contributes directly to the number of blankets, we can donate,” said Kahlberg.
The spokesperson said they are hoping to increase the number of blankets to be donated through the Dis-Chem Foundation’s association with Hot Cares, which is actively calling for donations from the public.
The Benoni SPCA expressed gratitude for the donation received.
