A family of six was left homeless after their shack burnt down in the early hours of May 2.

The Etwatwa family is in desperate need of donations such as food and clothes.

According to Brightness Mdhluli, the fire started in her bedroom where she and her daughter were sleeping.

“My daughter screamed when she discovered that the shack was on fire and we managed to escape unharmed. I still don’t know what caused the fire because our electricity metre box is not faulty and there weren’t any lit candles.

“I am sad because we now have nothing. Everything was destroyed, including my children’s clothes, identity documents, school uniforms and furniture,” said Mdhluli.

Seen here is what is left from the Mdhluli’s family shack.

The family since the fire since have been surviving from the generosity of the community, who provide them with food and clothing.

Community member, Priscilla Sebadi said she, on the day of the incident, heard screams for help and upon checking she saw her neighbours’ shack burning.

“After seeing a need that they’ve been left with nothing, I posted on social media to appeal for help from the community,” said Sebadi
