Letter: Working together to bring hope to destitute communities of KZN

It has been incredible to watch the community come together for this special project.

Rev Louise Wernich, writes:

This week was a busy and meaningful week here at Northfield Methodist Church.

We have ploughed ourselves into the KZN relief project.

Young adults, youth, children and the Bible study groups have been collecting, delivering and sorting through goods for this project.

The hall is full of clothes, bedding, toiletries, food, water and stationery.

People have been arriving from different churches, faith groups and schools to deliver and help sort goods for us to take to KZN next week.

I even witnessed someone take an old elephant teddy bear home, which had been deeply loved and fixed it up to go down to a child who needs it.

We also raised R4 000 for this project and have bought food for those in need.

We, unfortunately, have a shortage of children’s clothes, blankets, food and water. If you perhaps have items that could assist, that would be greatly appreciated. Collections will continue until April 24.

All the Methodist churches across Southern Africa are working together to help mobilise relief plans for the affected communities.

We are a drop-off and sorting point for all the Methodist churches throughout the Highveld and eSwatini. We will pack trucks and send the goods to the Methodist church in Durban Central.

From there the items will be distributed according to the needs of the churches and community centres down the coastline.

Affected and aiding Methodist churches will also let us know about specific or future needs where we may be able to assist.

It is beautiful to be part of a network of churches in moments like these. Together, we are far stronger and more effective.
