They also had an opportunity to showcase their singing and dancing talents during the event.

Over 50 inmates from the Modderbee Correctional Services were on April 20 awarded certificates and trophies for their academic excellence during the 2021 academic year.

The recognised inmates are participating in Adult Education and Training (AET) programmes from level one to four (Grade One to Nine) in the correctional centre. Certificates of attendance and best tutors were awarded to deserving individuals.

During the award ceremony, invited guests encouraged inmates to continue equipping themselves with education to become ideal citizens.

Ex-offender Chere Matseke of Kwa-Thema advised inmates to utilise the opportunity of being educated in prison to become better people in communities when they are released.

Ex-offender Chere Matseke of Chere initiatives advised inmates to use education as a tool to change their lives for the better.

“Through education, you discover your potential and become the best version of yourself. While in prison you must position yourself because true character is shown when you are cornered,” said Matseke.

Matseke, who is now the proud owner of Chere Initiatives, encouraged inmates to choose their friends wisely when they are released from prison.

Inmates also had an opportunity to showcase their singing and dancing talents during the event.
