Travellers to remain alert this Easter

Traffic volumes expected to increase

While many holidaymakers prepare to take to the national roads for the upcoming Easter weekend, DEMS’ William Ntladi is cautioning road users to remain alert.

“This long weekend is the first one following the end of the national state of disaster. Many Christians and holidaymakers are anticipated to travel to different destinations across the country,” he said.

“Traffic volumes are expected to increase on the national routes from Thursday and Friday morning, as well as Monday when everyone will be returning.”

DEMS will closely monitor all major routes throughout the weekend and be ready to respond to assist as required.

“Another major concern is the adverse weather conditions that might affect travelling conditions,” he said.

“We reiterate the need to exercise extra caution and obey all rules of the road without exception.

Pedestrians are commonly seen walking or crossing freeways, which subject them to fatal accidents.”

In case of any emergency, call the City’s life-threatening emergency call centre on 011 458 0911, 10177 or 112.
