Aunt confesses to beating her nephew to death

The aunt abandoned her bail application at the Tsakane District Court on April 4.

The body of a 16-year-old boy from Daveyton was recently found buried at his aunt’s house in Tsakane.

According to the police, the boy was allegedly assaulted to death by his 36-year-old aunt before he was buried in the yard.

The aunt was arrested on April 1 after her 14-year-old son sent pictures of the incident to his relative in KwaZulu-Natal and the relative then phoned the police.

NPA regional spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said the aunt abandoned her bail application at the Tsakane District Court on April 4.

“The woman confessed in front of Magistrate Nico Venter in his chambers that she indeed committed the alleged offences because her nephew had admitted to stealing money from her,” said Mahanjana.

The aunt is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.

The matter was postponed to April 12 for further investigation and will be transferred to the Regional Court.
