Daveyton SAPS says no to drug abuse

Various drug hot spots in Daveyton were flooded by members of the Daveyton SAPS.

A convoy of police vehicles with sirens and blue lights paraded the streets of Daveyton on March 25 during a drug awareness roadshow organised by the Daveyton SAPS.

The campaign was supported by members of the Department of Social Development, Ekurhuleni social workers, CPF, Etuka and Sabiba organisations.

According to the Daveyton SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Constance Moalusi, the awareness roadshow was aimed at addressing young people about the dangers of drug consumption as well as where they can get assistance if they wanted to quit their drug abuse habit.

Daveyton CPF and patrollers were hard at work handing out drug abuse and gender-based violence educational pamphlets to residents.

Police made their first stop at Central Taxi Rank, Sgodi Khanyile’s Shop and Khumalo shops, where they engaged with young people who opened up about their addictions.
Drug abuse and gender-based violence pamphlets were also handed out to residents.

Moalusi shared the visited areas were identified as drug hot spots and scenes of crime.

“During our campaign, we reached more than 199 people. We are pleased to share that most of the drug users we spoke to are willing to go to rehab. The SAPS dog unit also visited six alleged drug dens in the area,” said Moalusi.
