Council flats in Actonville to be fixed during financial year

The roof suffered damage after the ceiling collapsed recently.

Repairs of the damaged roof and ceiling at the apartment of a couple in Actonville will be repaired during the 2021/22 financial year, according to the metro.

Metro spokesperson Zweli Dlamini said the municipality is aware of the situation at the couple’s council-owned apartment at Aloe Court.

The roof suffered damage after the ceiling collapsed inside their main bedroom recently.

Peter Erasmus (57), who has been a tenant at Aloe Court for the past 21 years, said the roof started cracking in 2020 when the facia boards outside started tearing off.

He said he and his wife have since last year reported the matter to the municipality, but their pleas have been ignored despite repeated complaints.

Meanwhile, Dlamini urged residents at Aloe Court to report the service delivery breakdown to the municipality.
