Wheels of justice turn slowly for Actonville family

The Kapadia family said it’s been two years and no one has been arrested.

The family of the late 47-year-old woman who was knocked over two years ago by a learner driver in the Actonville parking lot, said the slow wheels of justice have failed them.

Fahmida-Bibi Kapadia, who worked as a manager at the Mochachos in East Rand Mall, was crossing the parking lot on the corner of Soma Street and Khan Crescent around 17:00 when she was knocked over.

Fahmida-Bibi was rushed to Sunshine Hospital but she died two hours after the incident.

Shoukad Kapadia, Fahmida-Bibi’s husband, said it’s been two years since her wife’s death but no one has taken accountability for her death.

“The police haven’t updated us since a case of culpable homicide was opened at the Actonville Police Station.

“We became aware that no one was arrested because a few months after the incident, I saw the driving school vehicle driving along my house. It seems they were continuing with their life as if nothing happened,” said Kapadia.

Kapadia said the death of his wife severely affected his family.

“Things have been hard because I lost my job. The house is no longer the same without her, we miss her every day,” said Kapadia.

Actonville SAPS spokesperson Sgt Godin Nyathi said the police are still investigating the case, however, they are still awaiting video footage from the family.

“The investigating officer has since met with the family to discuss the case,” said Nyathi.

Nyathi added that a statement from the learner driver and post-mortem results have been received.

“A statement from the owner of the driving school who is reported to be living in Eastern Cape is still outstanding,” said Nyathi.
