BHS athlete sets his sights on a new record

" As long as I remain focused I know I will succeed"

Danny Horacia (18) from Benoni High School is off to the South African Schools Athletics (SASA) championships, setting his sights on breaking his personal record.

As a 400m hurdles athlete, Danny, a first-time SASA qualifier, says that he has been working towards this goal since Grade Eight.

“The 2020 lockdown had a negative impact on my training as I could not get onto the track,” he said.

“Thanks to my school coach Jakkie Erasmus and Nadine de Bruin, the school’s biokineticist, I was able to maintain some of my training and conditioning. It has finally brought me to this point.”

According to Erasmus, Danny has the potential to better his personal best of 0.54.8 which in turn would place him in the top eight in the country.

“We are exceptionally proud of him as he has put in the work to reach his goals,” said Erasmus.
