Gardener dies after being mauled by dogs in Crystal Park

The owner surrendered the dogs to the Benoni SPCA.

A 45-year-old gardener died after three pit bull terriers mauled him at his place of work in Crystal Park on February 14.

Crystal Parks SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mopeli said the man was alone in his employer’s home at around 10:45 when he was attacked by the dogs.

An inquest docket has been opened at the Crystal Park Police Station.

Members of the Benoni SPCA were also called to the scene.

According to SPCA manager Bronwyn Kleynhans, the man was already deceased by the time their inspectorate arrived.

“The three dogs, two female and a male, were handed over to the SPCA by the family with fears that they might be a danger to the community. They were humanely euthanised,” she said.

Kleynhans extended condolences to the deceased’s family.
