Bike racing teacher is passionate about learning

“You will only ever achieve your full potential if you turn your dreams into goals.”

Whether she is leaning into a tight corner or teaching her class to spell, Nicole Fourie of Delmas and teacher at a private academy in Atlasville is living life in the fast lane and loving every moment of it.

Ranked in second place on the Red Star Raceway’s club championship, she has been living full throttle from a young age.

“I started off on dirt bikes at the age of three,” she said.

“When I was 15, I wanted a road bike, but my dad said the only place he will let me ride is on the track – challenge accepted. I have been racing in the 400cc and 600cc divisions for the past five years.”

In the classroom, she captivates her learners’ attention with her gentle nature and updates on her race standings.

“As long as I can remember, I wanted to become a teacher,” she said.
“I love watching children learn and develop into their own personality.”

During her downtime, she can be found in the gym, focusing on her personal goals.
According to her stamina, quick reflexes and focus is essential when competing in the world of motorsports.

“I do a lot of cardio workouts, as it builds endurance and keeps your mind razor sharp,” she said.
“It also comes in handy when trying to keep up with my learners energy levels.”

For Nicole, the stand-out moment in her racing career was in 2021 in Durban.

“It was my first race in the rain. I managed to claw my way up the grid from 12th position to fifth overall,” she said.

“It was strenuous but rewarding to be able to finish among the top five.”

Although she is one of the few female competitors in the sport, she believes traditional gender roles should not prevent women from stepping out of their comfort zones and into their dreams.

“If you put your mind to it, you are able to achieve anything,” she said.

“You will only ever achieve your full potential if you turn your dreams into goals.”
