WATCH: Sgela 1st donates much-needed appliances

Daveyton’s matric top achievers are now armed with appliances and pots for university residence.

As part of honouring top matric achievers from various schools in Daveyton, three young professionals from a local organisation called Sgela 1st have donated a brand new kettle, iron and pots to the group.

Accompanied by their parents, the former learners attended the handover event, which took place at Hulwazi Secondary School on January 29.

Sgela 1st co-founder Advocate Tsatseng Rantsho said he and his co-founders, Nhlakanipho Sindane and Sibusiso Hlongwane, saw a need to boost these learners with the essential appliances to assist them in university.

“Often these necessities are overlooked when one goes to university while others simply can’t afford to buy them. So with these donated items, they’ll be able to cook and iron while they are at university residence,” said Rantsho.

Rantsho added that the beneficiaries were selected from 10 high schools including Mabuya Secondary School, Unity Secondary School, Hulwazi Secondary School, Dinoto Tech, E.R.S.A, Petit High School, Rivonia Secondary School, Lesiba Secondary School, Nyathi Secondary School and Davey Secondary School.

One of the beneficiaries who attained six distinctions, Samukelo Mazibuko of Lesiba Secondary School, said he is grateful for the donation because he will no longer have to burden his parents to buy these appliances for him.

Sgela 1st has been in existence for a few years now, focusing on motivational speaking and youth development in regards to encouraging learners to make school their priority.
