Flying squad recovers six vehicles

Members of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) have closed the net on criminals and successfully recovered six vehicles which have been reported as hijacked or stolen.

According to WO Grant Giblin, BFS communications officer, a man was arrested in Malpensa Street, Bonearo Park, on charges of house break-in.

He was found in possession of a bicycle and portable battery charger.

“At 08:00 on February 2, we received information from a courier company in Long Meadow Business Park, Edenvale, of a package containing dagga,” he said.

“The parcel, which was destined for Cape Town, contained 6kg of dagga.”

Later on the same day, members responded to a call from a tracking company regarding a suspected stolen vehicle in Mayfield.

The white Volkswagen Polo was found parked at a home.

“The vehicle was reported as stolen in Putfontein,” he said. “The owner of the home was arrested and the vehicle was impounded.”

A white Opel Corsa Utility, which was reported as stolen in Springs, was recovered on Prince’s Avenue.
The driver was arrested on scene.

At the end of the operation, members recovered four abandoned vehicles at separate locations, with the first being a white Toyota Corolla in Charlotte Maxeke Street in Thembisa, which was reported as hijacked in Olivenhoutbosch.

“The second was a Toyota Hilux in Godlo Street, Wattville, which was reported as stolen in Midrand,” he said.

“A Ford Ranger was recovered in Gelsumum Street in Ebony Park and was reported as hijacked in Rabie Ridge.
The last, a Volkswagen Polo, was found on Flanigan Street, Boksburg, and was reported as hijacked in Bethal.”

All the cases are still under investigation and the suspects will soon appear in the respective magistrate’s courts.
