A 21-year-old woman was found floating in a pool of water caused by heavy rains in a veld along Gumbi Street (between Extensions One and 45), Mayfield, on December 23, 2021.
The body was discovered by members of the community.
According to Putfontein police spokesperson Sgt Raider Ubisi, the woman was reported missing at the Putfontein SAPS a few days before the discovery.
He said the body was found decomposed and half-naked.
“The deceased was only wearing a T-shirt. Her trousers were next to her body,” Ubisi said.
According to police, the woman left home on December 17 notifying no one about where she was going and didn’t return home that day.
An inquest docket has been opened at the Putfontein SAPS.
The body of a man was discovered in the same veld last year, according to Ubisi.
