Two caught trying to steal cables

Report tampering with municipal infrastructure to the Ekurhuleni metro's call centre on 0860 543 000.

Two men were charged at the Daveyton police station recently after they were caught attempting to steal copper cables in Mayfield.

Members of the EMPD swept the crime scene and found that the men had dug a 1.2m-long trench using a shovel and pickaxe. They also placed a PVC sewage pipe over the copper cables to sleeve it.

They found a wide wheelbarrow and generator used to cut the cables on the scene.

The Ekurhuleni metro is pleading with residents to report anyone who is deliberately damaging metro-owned property and infrastructure, or notice deliberate damage to property in their area, as this is vandalism.

Vandalism not only affects communities but is also expensive to repair. Report this by calling the metro’s call centre on 0860 543 000.
