Off-duty BFS officer makes arrest

The suspects will appear in local magistrate's courts to face charges of dealing in drugs and possession of stolen property.

Two suspects were arrested and three vehicles were recently recovered by officers of the Benoni Flying Squad (BFS).

“Officers arrested a suspect for dealing in drugs at the corner of Makou and Seemeeu streets, Rabie Ridge,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“The suspect was allegedly found with seven packets of crystal methamphetamine in his pants pocket.

“The drugs and R130 were booked in as evidence.”

In another arrest, Sgt Jaco Powell was off duty and in Casseldale, Springs, when he witnessed the hijacking of a white Nissan NP300 belonging to a medical company.

“The officer jumped into his own vehicle in an attempt to chase the hijacked Nissan,” Giblin explained.

“Unfortunately, he lost the vehicle towards Springs CBD only to be recovered by metro members shortly afterwards in Fourth Avenue, Geduld.

“Powell then received information from the tracking company that the stock that had been on the NP300 was being tracked to an address in Third Street, Springs.

“Powell rushed to the address in his vehicle, where he found a suspect loading the hijacked medicinal stock out of a Chevrolet Utility bakkie.”

The suspect was arrested and cough syrup to the value of around R20 000 was recovered.

The abandoned hijacked vehicles recovered were:
• White Nissan NP200 in Solphin Street, Kaalfontein Extension, reported on a Midrand case
• Silver Volkswagen Polo in Lebombo Street, Entshonalanga Section, Thembisa, reported on a Rabie Ridge case.
• Silver Toyota Fortuner in Imana Street, Daveyton, reported on a Springs case.

Investigation continues in all cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s courts to face charges of dealing in drugs and possession of stolen property.
