Actonville Primary School learners donate to elderly

The school handed over the boxes to the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora on October 13.

Learners from Actonville Primary School learned it is better to give than to receive.

Senior citizens from Pauline Davis and Deneys Conradie were the chosen beneficiaries of the lesson as learners came together and donated eight boxes filled with handbags and toiletries.

The principal of the school, Venessa Moodley, said they recently hosted heels, crown and bow tie day at the school and encouraged learners to donate a handbag with toiletries.

“We hosted the day to boost the learners’ self-esteem and make them feel good by dressing in their heels and a bow tie.

“I was pleasantly surprised by the number of donations we had collected,” she said.

The school handed over the boxes to the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora on October 13.

Yegalan Chetty, president of the club, said they would keep the boxes in quarantine for a few days before they hand them over to the elderly.
