BCT cake found a new home

A total of R320 was raised through selling the raffles.

One of the layers of the three-tier City Times centenary cake recently found a new home with Annelize Marx, who was drawn as the Hospice East Rand raffle winner.

The newspaper celebrated its 100th birthday on September 10, and what sweeter way to do so than with a 20kg cake!

Two layers of the cake were donated to charity organisations, namely Hospice and the Benoni SPCA, for fund-raising.

The brandied fruitcake was made and sponsored by Tania Riley of Cake Arts, Farrarmere.

Hospice raffled their layer at the Rynfield charity shop, 17D Waterson Street, Rynfield, where those who were interested in buying a raffle ticket could look at the cake before buying it. Each ticket was R10 and the draw took place on October 29.

“Monies raised will be used towards funding for patients who cannot afford care,” said marketing and media liaison Jonquil Siepman.

A total of R320 was raised.
