Public invited to MOTHs Remembrance Day Parade

Members of the public are welcome to attend the parade that will start at 10:30.

Member of the local Memorable Order of Tin Hats (MOTHs) and SA Legion will host a 103rd annual Remembrance Day Parade at the Moth Reveille Shellhole on November 7.

Malcolm Engels, a member of MOTHs, said it is important to honour and remember the men, women and animals who paid the ultimate price in defence of freedom in military service.

Remembrance Day, also known as Poppy Day, commemorates those who lost their lives and celebrates those who survived World War I, World War II and the Korean War. It is celebrated annually on the Sunday closest to November 11, at 11:00, across the former British Empire.

The day is marked by two minutes of silence, observed every year since 1919, the first anniversary of Armistice Day, the end of the Great War (World War I).

In addition, wreaths were laid at the Wall of Remembrance and stones were piled up as symbols of commemoration for fallen soldiers.

Members of the public are welcome to attend the parade alongside the Moths and SA Legion members.

The proceedings start at 10:30.

All Covid-19 protocols will be followed.
