BFS arrests 11

Investigation continues in all cases.

A successful weekend for Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) led to the arrest of 11 suspects and the recovery of four vehicles and one unlicensed firearm.

“Officers patrolling Great North Road at around 11:45 on Saturday noticed a white Mercedes driving recklessly. They proceeded to pull the vehicle over and a search led to the discovery of 21 packets of Cat (cocaine) hidden in a vehicle door panel,” said BFS spokesperson WO Grant Giblin.

“The suspect was arrested immediately, whereupon he offered officers R300 for his release. This led to an additional charge of bribery added to his detention.”

In another incident, a suspect in Daveyton was arrested.

“A suspect was detained after being caught for shoplifting at Daveyton Mall,” Giblin explained.

“Officers also arrested a further four suspects for possession of drugs in Ebony Park Extension Three, Ivory Park Ext Six and Emaphupeni, Etwatwa.

“Mandrax, nyaope (heroine) and crystal methamphetamine were confiscated in these separate incidents.”

The Benoni officers proceeded to make more arrests outside of Benoni:
• Ivory Park Ext Nine
“Officers followed up on information on an alleged drug dealer in possession of an unlicensed firearm that led to a residence in Ivory Park Ext Nine,” Giblin explained.
“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of a 9mm pistol with a number filed off, two magazines, 10 live rounds of ammunition and 2 300g of dagga. The suspect was immediately arrested and the items confiscated.”
• Bonaero Park
“Two drunk drivers were arrested in separate incidents on Atlas Road, Bonaero Park, and Casuarina Street, Kempton Park,” Giblin added.
• Thembisa
“Two suspects were arrested in separate incidents of assault in Makhulong and Moriting sections,” Giblin concluded.

Vehicles recovered:
• Silver Nissan Qashqai in Barcelona Ext 34, Etwatwa, reported on a Putfontein case
