The Benoni SPCA has raised a whopping R18 354 since the launch of their annual Christmas Cheer Fund on October 10, and they are hoping to reach their R100 000 goal by the close of the fund in mid-January.

Chairperson of the society Diane Wooldridge said while they are grateful for the donations, they are hoping to raise R100 000, which will be used towards purchasing a new truck for the SPCA inspectors.

As an NPO, the organisation relies largely on donations from companies and residents in order for them to operate and be the voice to the voiceless animals they assist.

The society has created a list of all their needs and is asking residents to continue supporting their fund-raisers, as well as make donations towards the SPCA.

Residents who want to contribute can donate towards the following:

• Truck – an NP200 or similar (the SPCA would be happy to put the donor’s logo or name on the truck as advertising)

• Petrol lawnmower

• 6m x 35m small diamond mesh fencing with 10 gumpoles and two gates.

“We wish to section off an area especially dedicated to the meet-and-greets before adoption and see how the animals react to each other off lead,” Wooldridge said.

• A chain saw

• Galvanised sheeting for the H Block, which is 40m long and will need to be 6m wide

• A 2.5m (or thereabout) stainless steel table for the clinic

• Boxes of copying paper

• Ten-litre light grey interior wall paint and 10-litre white ceiling paint for the reception

“As the items needed are really big and expensive, we would be very happy if someone could donate a portion thereof as well,” Wooldridge added.

Those responsible for the tally so far are:

• Mariska (R100)
• Martin and Lara (R450)
• Heather (R300)
• Apricot Tree (R300)
• Byron (R200)
