Domestic worker tied up during house robbery in Farrarmere

A case of house robbery was opened at the Benoni SAPS.

The Benoni police are investigating a case of house robbery after a domestic worker was tied up at a home in Douglas Street, Farrarmere, on October 21 at around 14.30.

The Benoni SAPS spokesperson Capt Nomsa Sekele said it is alleged that the domestic worker noticed a vehicle at the gate with two men.

“She went to the gate to talk to the men and was asked where the homeowner was to which she responded they were not home. They then told her they were sent to check the electric fence,” said Sekele.

“They asked for the owner’s number so they can ask for permission to enter. The two men pretended as if they were calling the owner.”

Sekele said once they were inside the property, one of the robbers took the domestic worker to one of the bedrooms and tied her up.

“They were then joined by another robber and they ransacked the house,” she said.

They fled with jewellery, cellphones and electronic goods. No arrests have been made.

Sekele said they urge homeowners need to fully inform their domestic staff about contractors or people expected to work on their premises in their absence.

“Domestic workers need to contact their employers and inform them of unknown people wanting to gain entry and confirm their claims with their employers before granting them access,” said Sekele.

“It is important for the domestic worker not to grant strangers access to the premises before confirming with their employers.”
