Like all social grant caregivers, qualifying clients without the 13-digit barcoded South African ID are now eligible to apply for the special Covid-19 social relief of distress grant.
When applying, they are expected to use a Sassa system-generated number starting with 7777 as their identification number.
According to Sassa spokesperson Gauteng, Nandi Mosia, they have beneficiaries on its grant system who do not have a South African ID but are receiving social grants.
“Some of these beneficiaries receive payments for children’s grants like the child support, care dependency and foster child grants.

“To enable them to apply for social grants, Sassa allocated eligible persons without the 13-digit barcoded ID numbers a system-generated that start with a quad seven (7777) number to assist them to access social assistance whilst their identification problems are currently being resolved by the national Department of Home Affairs.”
Mosia said Gauteng has a total number of 5 050 recipients using these system-generated numbers.
To this end, Sassa is calling on all eligible beneficiaries who are currently receiving their children’s grants using a system-generated quad seven (7777) identity to apply for the special Covid-19 social relief of distress grant using their system generated number allocated by the agency.
“Caregivers who do not have their Sassa system-generated quad seven numbers, are advised to call the toll-free number on 0800 60 10 11 or 011 241 8326 to request the said referred number.
“Once they have their number, they will be able to apply for the R350 grant, using the Sassa website on https://srd.sassa.gov.za,” said Mosia.
Upon completion of their applications and if approved, the R350 grant will be paid into their existing bank accounts at the disposal of the agency.
They can then draw their money at any channel that accepts a payment card such as ATMs, Post Office or they can use their nearest supermarkets.
