Learn about breast cancer onboard a Boeing

The Museum Society has donated the use of its Boeing 747-SP display aircraft for the venue.

Former Benoni High School graduate and one-time air hostess at South African Airways Margaret Boshoff has taken Cancer Awareness Month to new heights by arranging a charity event on board a larger-than-life Boeing 747 SP aircraft parked at the South African Airways Museum, Rand Airport, Germiston.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the South African Airways Museum Society has taken up the challenge of spreading the word about the ‘Big C’ and will be closing off this very meaningful month with an exclusive cancer awareness fundraising event at its museum park, Dakota Crescent, Rand Airport, Germiston, at 14:00 on October 30.

The Museum Society has donated the use of its Boeing 747-SP display aircraft to serve as a unique venue for the event.

Professor Carol-Ann Benn, of the Breast Care Centre of Excellence and a Fellow of the College of Surgeons of South Africa, with a special interest in breast disease, will be the keynote speaker.

Benn has also volunteered her time to make this museum initiative a success. An address of this nature has never before been delivered on board an aircraft and even more remarkable that this particular Boeing 747-SP aircraft is the only one on public display worldwide.

The combination of both a speaker of the calibre of Benn and the uniqueness of the venue will ensure a memorable time is had by all attendees.

The entrance fee of R150 per person includes an address by Benn, a brief tour through the museum and an afternoon tea. The proceeds will be donated to a cancer research project.
