Chrissy de Beer – where is she now?

This Ridgewood College learner has been pushing and pulling through since the last time she spoke with the City Times.

Rynfield resident Chrissy de Beer (10) hasn’t let Covid-19 stop her from achieving her dreams.

This Ridgewood College learner has been pushing and pulling through since the last time she spoke with the City Times.

“I wrote my first set of exams at school recently while still chasing my passion,” said Chrissy.

“I was pretty nervous when writing but it wasn’t that bad.”

The last everyone heard, Chrissy was supposed to be off to the International Model and Talent Association (IMTA) in New York in 2020 for singing, dancing, acting and modelling. The event was postponed to this year for July in Atlanta, Florida, and again there were hitches.

“The IMTA did happen but it was only able to take place on Zoom. We were ready to leave, we had done our visa’s, packed and were ready to go,” explained Tasha de Beer, Chrissy’s mom-ager.

“The other countries didn’t want the Delta variant, so South Africa were not permitted as we were in the red zone. We were quite disappointed but there is nothing we could do about it,” said Chrissy.

The director of 33 and Me, the talent agency Chrissy belongs to, spoke to the CEO of the IMTA and asked if they could host a virtual showcase.

“This was the first-ever virtual showcase that they have ever allowed,” said Tasha.

“There were 70 South African contestants and it took part over two days. We didn’t want to do the virtual but we knew this wasn’t all doom and gloom as this was an extra opportunity for her.

“We drove to the virtual showcase and everyone was in the same room with one cameraman shooting the performances live. We had to be there at 10:00, but it only started at 13:00 due to the time difference with the USA agents. Only 10% of the agents came to the virtual showcase.”

Chrissy ended up enjoying eight callbacks.

“She got the most out of all 70 contestants,” said Tasha.

“We went not expecting anything. We would have settled for her to learn being in front of the camera. I thought maybe two will be great and then she got eight. I googled some of the agencies because I am not fully aware of them and the one is working with Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon. I was just amazed.”

According to Chrissy’s mom-ager and her real manager Jeanri Mellanby of J3 Design, Beautiful Things, S.A, Chrissy is doing well in every aspect of her life, still working at her talent, managing school and finished modern dancing exams passing with distinctions.

“She loved writing and singing her first song (High Five).

“It’s all new to me and her. As we go along I see more of how her talent has become second nature. I am sitting and worrying while she just goes and does,” chuckled Tasha.

Chrissy is working on her second single and looks forward to her callback auditions with the agents that want to see more of her.
