SA Post Office update on branches in Boksburg and Benoni

The City Times caught up with a few representatives of the Post Office Head Office to find out which are still open, which will be reopening and which will be staying permanently closed within the Benoni and Boksburg areas.

East Rand residents have been panicking at the site of post offices either closing down for good or temporarily.
The City Times contacted the SA Post Office to find out which branches are open, which will be reopening and which will be staying permanently closed in Benoni and Boksburg.

Johan Kruger, communication manager at the head office, said some post offices have been temporarily closed to be decontaminated to comply with Covid-19 regulations.

A few are also temporarily closed due to disputes with the property owner over rental.

“There is an oversupply of post offices in certain urban areas. Until a few years ago, the SA Post Office was required to have one branch for every 10 000 adult residents in an area.

“The excess branches have now been merged with nearby branches where the remaining branch is 5km or less away, to make sure that everyone still has easy access to a post office. No post offices in rural areas are considered for mergers.”

The post office at the Sheridan Shopping Centre, in Farrarmere, is closed until further notice.
