Man in critical condition following accident on the N12

Neil is in the ICU and suffers from bleeding and swelling on the brain.

Rynfield resident Angelique Brits said her husband, Neil (32), who was driving a green Opel Corsa, is in critical condition at the Netcare Union Hospital following an accident on the N12 on October 7.

She said Neil, a qualified technician, was on his way to his workplace in Kempton Park when the accident occurred at about 07:20.

“We’ve spoken to a few witnesses, and it appears that my husband in his vehicle was standing still in traffic on the N12 at the R21 offramp. A truck driver then lost control of his vehicle.

“He bumped a few other cars and ended up on top of my husband’s car. The entire back of the car was under the truck. There appears to be no attempt from the driver to stop. It’s a miracle that he is alive,” Angelique said.

Angelique said Neil is in the ICU and suffers from bleeding and swelling on the brain.

“His left ribs are broken and his lungs are slightly hurt. His face is also swollen. Neil is still not out of danger. He’s in an induced coma as doctors believe it’s his best chance to recover. They will also monitor the pressure on his brain with the assistance of an intracranial pressure monitor.

“We’re now just praying. Our family is going through a tough time. It was also difficult for me to read about it on social media, especially the negative comments of people who speculate without facts,” she explained.

Angelique expressed her gratitude to everybody who supported the family.

“I want to thank everybody for their love and prayers. I can’t believe how much people care. My phone has been ringing non-stop. Even strangers sent me messages on Facebook,”

Angelique added. She said Neil is also the father of an 18-month-old baby and the stepfather to an eight-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old-girl. Neil celebrated his 32nd birthday on October 9.
