Young entrepreneur and Benoni High School bagpipe teacher Leighton Pearson (25) has turned his dreams into a reality.

Pearson dropped out of school in 2014 to focus on his dreams of becoming a successful entrepreneur. He started working for various people in the media and marketing industry and that is where he was taught all the skills needed for him to start his own company.

In 2018 Pearson started his own digital marketing company Motion Media that provides businesses with media marketing, photography, and videography services.

“All the skills I needed for my business are self-taught and I am growing every day in the knowledge acquired. The best thing anyone can do for themselves is to just show up.”

While he continues to grow his dream, he has also fulfilled another by being a South African champion bagpiper and bagpipe teacher.

“I learned bagpiping at Benoni High School in 2009 and in 2010 I received my first set of pipes to practice. I won my first solo competition in 2011.

“I play for a band called the Benoni MacTalla, which is a grade two band. This is the highest rank in South Africa.”

Pearson wants to help young children gain bagpiping experience and is willing to give children between the ages of six to 14 an opportunity to learn and join a bagpiping band free of charge.
