Rynfield resident hit hard by lockdown is grateful for support

The Round Table men tabled the proposal and passed a charity poker fund-raiser and raffle to help in raising funds to pay towards Evie's rent.

In July, the Round Table Golden East 181 (GE181) hosted a charity fund-raiser for one of Benoni’s local hero’s, Evelyn Labuschagne.

Evie, as she is known by her friends, is a house and animal sitter.

“The pandemic meant families were no longer travelling, so Evie had a huge gap in making ends meet. Taryn Tanner (wife of Jonathan Tanner, secretary of GE181) approached Golden East 181 with a proposed project to assist Evie,” said Gareth van Wyk, member of GE181.

The Round Table men then tabled the proposal and passed a charity poker fund-raiser and raffle to help in raising funds to pay towards Evie’s rent.

Prizes were won as follows:

• First prize: Athelia Hattingh

• Second prize: Monique Robinson

• Third prize: Patrick Jardine

• Fourth prize: Rosemary Rickards

• Fifth prize: Megan Tanner

• Sixth prize: Bernitta Booysen

“GE181 has been paying the rent (directly to the management) since July and has to date an excess of R34 000 in her ledger,” he explained.

“A heartfelt thank you to the Benoni community who took part in the events. Round Table is only successful when the community stands together.”

They also gave a few special shout-outs to Round Table Potchefstroom 47 for the donation of the Fossil watch, Pretoria 136 for the Pat Symcox hat, ball and bottle of wine and the food vouchers that were donated by Pick n Pay Towers whom, according to Gareth, are local legends in supporting Round Table Golden East 181 projects.

“Round Table Southern Africa exists to make impactful change in our communities and Southern Africa as a whole,” he said.

“We retain and grow our members, of whom are all young men willing to give up their time and skills to give back to those less fortunate. We inspire, we grow, we transform lives, we disrupt, we engage and we change.”
