UPDATE: Daveyton mother burnt outside pre-school dies

The boyfriend, who also suffered burn wounds, will be in court or appear in absentia on October 11.

Benoni police have confirmed that the Daveyton woman who was badly burnt after her boyfriend set her car alight outside a pre-school in Miles Sharp Street succumbed to her injuries on Thursday (September 23).

Benoni SAPS spokesperson Captain Nomsa Sekele confirmed that the woman died at a hospital in Kempton Park and that the charge against the boyfriend has been changed from attempted murder to murder.

The woman (27) was taken to hospital on September 13 after sustaining serious burn wounds in the incident, which happened just after she dropped her daughter off at the school, at around 6:15am.

The 40-year-old boyfriend will appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court on October 11, should he be discharged from hospital by then.

“If he is still in hospital, he will appear in absentia,” Sekele said.

The horror attack was captured on CCTV from the pre-school, which the City Times viewed on September 13.

The woman had just dropped her five-year-old daughter at the school and was with her cousin.
