Honesty resulted in a gold marriage

Morehill residents Mike and Gina Harper have reached another milestone by celebrating their gold wedding anniversary on August 28 and look forward to many more.
Mike has added to the highlights of their marriage through this article when he called the City Times asking to write an article to wish his wife a happy 50th anniversary as a surprise.
“It will be a pleasant surprise which you can’t put a value n and the memory will be so rewarding, she does enjoy reading the paper,” he explained.
The lovebirds met during high school in 1963 in the Free State. “We were both in the same class and both involved in athletics,” Mike said.
“We stayed as friends for a while before dating; our relationship was serious in matric after two years of dating.”

The couple moved to Benoni in 1988 and have two children, Alan Harper and Michele Nicholson. “The fact that we could do stuff together and create great memories from life experiences [made several highlights in the marriage],” Mike explained.
The secret to a successful marriage is openness and honesty. “Sharing your experiences together enforces the strong bond with each other,” the 74 year old said.
The retired couple now spends their days with their grandchildren, Nathan Harper (7) and Skyla Nicholson (7), and taking vacations.
“To young marriages and couples who are dating, be open and honest – it enhances the trust factor and does not allow doubt to creep into your relationship,” he concluded.
