Women’s Day donations for Ithemba

Sharol Naidoo, the club's youth officer, highlighted that the story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist.

Willowmoore High School Interact Club, under the auspices of the Rotary Club of Benoni, hosted a high tea and donated dignity packs and grocery items to the Ithemba Rape and Trauma Centre on August 6.

“The Interact Club initiated a fund-raiser in honour of women and raised R3 000,” said Annie Steijn, vice-president of the Rotary Club of Benoni.

“In celebration of Women’s Day, the club created awareness on how Covid-19 has impacted women and girls in profound ways, amplifying the inequalities they face every day.”

Sharol Naidoo, the club’s youth officer, highlighted that the story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organisation but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.

“The initiative allowed young people to truly make a positive difference for women,” said Annie.

“The dignity packs included messages of hope handcrafted by the learners.”

Former district governor Annie attended the event and expressed her appreciation to the interactors for their ongoing commitment to be so involved in the community.

Rose Maja from Ithemba expressed her sincere appreciation for the donation and the ongoing support Willowmoore High has provided since 2007.
