Daveyton home for the disabled welcomes new social worker

In 2019, she obtained a bachelor of social work from the University of South Africa.

Nkanyezi Ntshobeni was recently appointed as the social worker at Elethu Cheshire Home for the Disabled in Daveyton.

The 26-year-old had previously worked as an intern social worker at The Greater Benoni Child Welfare (GBCW) and the Department of Education.

In 2019, she obtained a bachelor of social work from the University of South Africa.

Nkanyezi’s role is to improve the well-being of the elderly at the home. The home has 18 residents from 18 to 55 years old.

The NPO renders 24-hour residential care to adults with disabilities. She said she has always wanted to be a social worker as she is passionate about people and being a problem-solver.

“As a social worker, you get to be part of the solution daily and you get to assist individuals who are very vulnerable and unable to voice their own needs,” said Nkanyezi.

“My job is very satisfying because at the end of the day you do feel that you have made a difference and you can’t do this job successfully when it is not in you.”

The Daveyton resident said she is looking forward to this new journey and she will do her best to ensure that the residents are well taken care of.

She urges local businesses to assist the home with any sponsorship as they need resources to uplift the home and the needs of the residents.

The home will appreciate any donation of food, blankets, socks, art and craft items, toiletries, vegetable seeds for its garden, wool for the elderly to knit and adult diapers.

Anyone who would like to donate or volunteer can contact Sandile Mafu on 011 424 7050 or email daveyton@cherishehomes.org.za.
