Car boot sale and craft market off until further notice

A new date for the car boot sale and when vendors can book will be published when it becomes available.

The City Times car boot sale and the Bunny Park Food and Craft Market have been postponed until further notice, in line with level four lockdown restrictions.

Rynette Joubert, the City Times advertising consultant who manages the car boot sale, said the safety of vendors and the public comes first.

“We have to adhere to the restrictions. The car boot sale will remain closed until further notice. We are looking forward to the day that we can reopen this popular community event,” she said.

Bunny Park Food and Craft Market organiser Janine Richardson said concerning the lockdown level four, although it was not gazetted that the market was to close (as it is regarded as outdoor retail rather than a gathering), she felt it was best to temporarily close the market too.

“Unfortunately, it is a very difficult time for many of the crafters, who rely on the markets for their income, and it disappointing for shoppers who enjoy the outing,” said Janine.

“However, with the extremely high rate of infections in Gauteng, it is not worth exposing anybody to Covid-19.”
She said they have enforced a very strict Covid-19 policy at their markets since the beginning of the pandemic.

“With the rate of infections at the moment though, even though our stallholders are far apart and shoppers maintain social distancing, we feel it is just too dangerous to open.

“We are waiting for the next address by President Cyril Ramaposa before we decide when to open again,” Janine said.

A new date for the car boot sale and when vendors can book will be published when it becomes available.
