Benoni Ladies soup kitchen a success

Around 150 people were fed in Farrarmere Gardens.

The Benoni Ladies Circle 25 recently set up a soup kitchen in Farrarmere Gardens and fed over 150 people.

“We gave meat and vegetable soup, as well as some loaves of bread,” said Lauren Michael, chairperson of the Benoni Ladies Circle 25.

“We also gave the children chocolates and suckers and then went and dropped blankets and some bread at the Benoni Child welfare.”

The team wanted to give a shout out and loads of thanks to their sponsors.

• Hein Barnard for his donation of 50 loaves of bread

• George from George and Co for his donation of 50 loaves

• Colin, Melissa and Dix Family for their donation of 40 loaves

• Helen Harley and Debbie Groenewald for their donation of blankets and beanies, which went to Child Welfare

• Teresa Marais for her donation of 10 loaves

• The veggie sponsor, Vegetarium, for their donation of vegetables

• Ryan Berndt for donating the meat

• Craig from Evolution Agencies for his donation of the cups

“I feel that the day was a huge success and the residents of Farrarmere Gardens were truly appreciative of receiving fresh, homemade soup and donated bread,” said Lauren.

“The Benoni 25 ladies spent the previous evening chopping, grating and cooking the soup.

“We were also following strict Covid-19 rules and regulations by having cones to enforce social distancing and sanitising everyone’s hands before handing out the food.”
