Water and electricity is expected to be restored by 2pm
Large parts of Benoni found themselves without power since around 2am.
Ward 27 Clr Lornette Joseph said there was a trip on overload when the transformers were switched on, regarding the power outage.
“The energy team is restoring the load bit by bit. The estimated time for full area restoration is two hours,” she said at 10.45am on May 7.
“Regarding the water, the pumps are on at the tower; however, the transformer that was at fault is the one that drives the power to those pumps.
“Once the power is on, the pumps will then restart and water will take approximately 40-60 minutes to be fully restored.”
Large parts of Benoni found themselves without power since around 2am. Joseph said wards 24, 25, 27 and 28 are affected by the power outage and this will also affect the water tower.
“There will be low or no water, so please use water sparingly,” she explained.
