Lake Lions Club donates pet food to PawsRehoming

The club recently appealed to community members to donate pet food, and a total of 200kg was collected.

The Benoni Lake Lions Club donated pet food and empty two-litre containers (ice-cream tubs) as part of its Paws in Need project to PawsRehoming on April 27.

PawsRehoming is a “home-grown” and privately run initiative that was started by Claudine Matthews to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome dogs and cats in informal settlements across Benoni and Boksburg.

The club recently appealed to community members to donate pet food, and a total of 200kg was collected.

The club’s president, Beaulieu Maré, said 50kg of dog and cat food was received in donations from the public and the club purchased 150kg.

“A total of 56 ice-cream tubs were collected and filled with food ready for distribution to animals living in dire circumstances in informal settlements and townships,” said Maré.

“The containers serve a dual purpose as they are used for water dishes once the food is finished.”

Maré said they have received a donation of another 1 000 containers, so they encourage members of the public to continue with their much-appreciated donations of food.
