Foundation works hard to help the less fortunate

Once the container is full, Mitchley said the foundation will be sharing the items between elderly homes, the homeless and a clinic called the Teddy Bear Clinic for abused children.

Gregg Mitchley, Northmead resident, has placed a container at the Eastfields Shopping Centre on the corner of Benoni and President Steyn roads next to the BP garage to start collecting items such as blankets, toiletries, jerseys and anything one could think of for the less fortunate.

“I started my foundation, the Gregg Mitchley Foundation, just after I promised my dad when he died two years ago I would have my own foundation one day,” he explained.

“Giving back to my community is my passion, so my full-time job is my foundation where I mainly care for the elderly and feed the less fortunate.

“Winter is approaching, that’s why I am starting to collect these donations. I am so blessed that the owner of the centre, Mario, said I could place the container there.”

There is no cut-off time or a deadline.

“I would obviously like it to be filled as soon as possible but no pressure,” he said

“When it’s full, it’s full. The more there is in the container the more people we can help.”

Once the container is full, Mitchley said the foundation will be sharing the items between elderly homes, the homeless and a clinic called the Teddy Bear Clinic for abused children.

“Some of the most important items we request for people to place in the container are clothes for all ages, blankets and toiletries.”

According to Mitchley, there will be security with cameras all over.

“Mario has also already met with AKM, the guarding service, who will also keep a special watch on the container,” he said.

“There is also a solid metal door that closes over the container to keep things locked up.”
