EMPD officers arrest eight in Putfontein

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Putfontein Police Station and are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.

EMPD Bromberg Precinct officers on patrol recently arrested eight male suspects in Putfontein and recovered a hijacked heavy motor vehicle and semi-trailer.

A community tip-off during a crime-prevention operation led to the arrest, according to EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng.

“The EMPD officers responded promptly and the plot mentioned was visited on De Wet Street, where eight motor mechanics found working on a few trucks were cornered and handcuffed,” he said.

“This comes after the officers, with a well-known motor vehicle tracking company found on-site, established that a white Mercedes-Benz truck tractor (horse) and the semi-trailer were among the 15 vehicles parked in the yard that was reported robbed/hijacked from owners early this year in Delmas and Olifantsfontein areas.

“The apprehended eight Zimbabwean and Mozambican nationals are facing charges of possession of robbed/hijacked motor vehicles.

“They are between the ages of 15 and 47.”

The suspects were arrested and taken to the Putfontein Police Station and are expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
