Rotary donations welcomed at iThemba

The Rotary Club of Benoni has been serving the community for the past 93 years with their moto being ‘service above self’.

The Rotary Club of Benoni recently donated to the iThemba Rape and Trauma Support Centre in Benoni.

The centre opened in 2006 and has since grown to 10 centres, which are dedicated to offering comprehensive care for survivors of gender-based violence and sexual assault.

“One of Rotary’s projects was to assist iThemba by filling dignity care bags,” said Annie Steyn, past district governor of the Rotary Club of Benoni.

“Bags were filled with much-needed items, including sanitary pads, underwear, toothpaste, toothbrushes and an encouraging message.

“We handed over 31 dignity care bags, which were gratefully received.

“The club also collected shoes, clothing and beautifully knitted baby jerseys, which will be distributed to the other centres by the Benoni branch when needed,” said Annie.

For the past 93 years, the Rotary Club of Benoni has been serving the community when needs arise to create lasting change, with their motto being ‘service above self’.

“As an NPO, iThemba is solely dependent on funding from government and the community to survive and operate,” said Annie.

“Donations are always welcome and the Rotary Club of Benoni can be contacted if anyone wants to assist in any way they can.”
