Rubble turns to art at Korsman

"Members of the community did the artwork and donated materials."

Korsman Conservancy chairperson Jane Trembath saw an opportunity to turn fence posts, which were left behind by a contractor after a pathway was laid in The Drive, in Westdene, in 2019 into something beautiful for the area.

Jane and an artist friend, Eleanor Brand, put their heads together and decided the fence posts could be an attractive feature if they were decorated, and they decided to use mosaicing.

“I asked Eleanor to run the project with me,” Jane explained.

“It took three weeks to complete a total of nine mosaics, using 22 volunteers.

“Members of the community did the artwork and donated materials.

“I simply love the mosaics as they are attractive and each one is unique because it was created by different people,” said Jane.

“The mosaics provide visual interest in an area of the walkway around Korsman from which the water isn’t visible and add a bit of variety for walkers.

“Everyone who worked on the project enjoyed it and we hope beautifying the area will intrigue people from all over to come and view our beautiful artwork and Korsman Bird Sanctuary.”
