Mayfield Square kicked-off their back-to-school campaign by giving back to the less fortunate learners in the community.
The shopping centre donated to Kuzimisela, Inkatha KaZulu, Gugulesizwe and Umnyezane primary schools on February 17 and 19.
As part of their back-to-school initiative, they donated 4 700 book covers, 180 school bags, 190 lunch boxes, and 243 boxes of colouring-in pencils.
The centre also helped to cover some books with local community stakeholders.
Through the donation, the centre aims to inspire hope in the learners as they return to school.
The Mayfield Square team said community integration and the spirit of ubuntu (humanity) is what drives them.
Umnyezane Primary’s social worker, Winnie Mona, expressed her gratitude to the centre.
“Giving back means sharing and empowering those in need. The centre is our solution and light in the darkness. No words can express our joy,” said Mona.
A Grade Six learner of Gugulesizwe Primary, Thobile Zwane, thanked the team for choosing their school as one of the beneficiaries.
All the schools that received the donations welcomed the stationery and said it will truly make a difference and they are grateful.
