11 distinctions for Conrad

Conrad is still awaiting feedback from the various universities he has applied to and added that his first choice would be to obtain a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery degree at the University of the Witwatersrand.

“Ecstatic” is the word Conrad Pretorius used to describe his emotion upon receiving his matric results.

The Ashton International College learner achieved 11 distinctions under the Cambridge Assessment International Education system.

“I am filled with gratitude and delight over my results.

“It gives me a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of satisfaction knowing that all my hard work has paid off,” he said.

Writing his matric during the Covid-19 pandemic was not what he had expected and there were times when he wanted to give up.

Conrad said what pushed him through was remembering that he had dedicated his entire high school career to his academics and could not give up.

“I also wanted to do my parents and teachers proud, but above all I wanted to be proud of myself,” he said.

Conrad’s advice for the matric learners of 2021 is: “There is no short cut or magical way of achieving excellent results. It comes down to deciding that you want to achieve good results and the rest is up to you alone.”
