Condolences pour in for Lakefield doctor

An outpour of condolences to the family and loved ones of Dr Dries Botha were shared on Facebook today after posts surfaced about his death.

The doctor practised in Lakefield alongside Dr John Field.

A post in the Benoni Community Group read:

“There are hundreds of people from the Benoni community [who] will feel the tragic loss of my colleague and friend. From the practice, Drs Field, Botha and partners, I would like to thank each and every one of you for the prayers and kind words sent for Dr Dries Botha, he will be so missed in the community. Lots of love and prayers go out to his family for the loss of a fantastic husband, father and grandfather.”

Some comments on the post were:

• Frances Otto Ridout: He has left a void impossible to fill. An amazing person and doctor, he made seeing a doctor a treat. Thoughts and prayers [go out to] his colleagues, friends and family. He will most definitely be missed.

• Yolanda Ebersohn Hanekom: Devastated to hear! He will be sorely missed! RIP Dr Botha. Condolences to the family!

• Ryan Stewart: He was an extraordinary person, we have lost a legend. Thoughts are with his family.

• Mickey Harding: The best doctor we have ever had. Our condolences to his family.

Ward 28 Clr Mary Goby said: “It is with a heavy heart that Benoni has lost such a good [doctor] as Dr Botha. Condolences [go out] to his family, friends, colleagues, staff and patients.”
